Quick Tricks to Update Your Kitchen

The holidays are a busy time for everyone, with many of us preparing to host family and friends in our homes.  Often, holiday gatherings center around food and so much of our preparation time is spent in the kitchen. If you’re anything like those of us at Armstrong, you’ve considered at least one update you’d like to make to your kitchen while spending those long hours whipping up holiday cheer for the dinner table.

Once the holidays have slowed down, you’ll have plenty of time to work around the house. Take a look at this list below for some inspiration on how you can make your kitchen feel brand new.

  1. Feeling Worn Out? Just Add Paint.

Like the look of your current kitchen features (like cabinets and the island), but think the space could use a budget-friendly update? Opt for paint instead of a full renovation. Take some time to look at the other colors in the room, and select a paint that complements your existing color scheme. Sand appropriate surfaces until smooth and caulk as needed to make sure all surfaces are even. With a little effort on your end, paint can provide a low-budget, full-space transformation.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to make a bold statement with bright and vivid paint on your cabinets. Beige paint can look dull against white walls.

  1. Keep The Layout. Update The Appliances.

If you love the home you currently live in, but want to make a change – upgrade your appliances. This long-term investment offers years of payoff, and you won’t lose functionality of your kitchen for weeks or months in the process. Keep your current layout, cabinets, and flooring (update with paint as needed) so that you can put your money towards the appliances of your dreams.

3.Tile Backsplash

Add a new design dimension to your kitchen by creating a tile backsplash. This detail provides a new focal point between your countertops and cabinets – making the space feel fresh. Do your research before starting to project to make sure the outcome is desirable.

  1. Create Your Own Island

Kitchen islands look amazing, but they’re expensive. Try this upgrade that doesn’t break the bank. Convert a kitchen console into a piece that’s worthy to be in the center of your space. For step by step how-to, take a look at HGTV’s guide: here.

  1. Display Your Dishes

Selectively remove kitchen cabinet doors to display your favorite dishes. Or, get creative with the revealed space and place cookbooks or metal tins containing kitchen must-haves on the visible shelves.
