Holiday Activities in Nashville

With the holiday season in full swing and Christmas just a week away, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by mile long to-do lists, travel plans, and coordinating family events. A quick way to fill yourself with holiday spirit is to do some fun, holiday activities around town. Spending a night doing something fun is a sure way to rid yourself of the stress of the holidays season and enjoy what it’s really about: spending time with loved ones.

We’ve compiled a list of our favorite holiday related things to do in Nashville. All of these things are fun for the whole family and are sure to get you in the holiday spirit!

OPRYLAND

Perhaps our favorite (and the best) holiday activity is found at Opryland. Every year from mid November through January 1st, Opryland is decorated with over 3 million lights throughout the interior and grounds of the resort. In addition to a beautiful Country Christmas, there are tons of activities sure to appeal to everyone in your family: carriage rides, ICE! featuring A Charlie Brown Christmas Story, snow tubing, ice skating, and more!

DANCING LIGHTS OF CHRISTMAS

The next best way to get in the holiday spirit is visiting the Dancing Lights of Christmas show. This one doesn’t even require leaving your car, so grab some hot chocolate at Starbucks, crank the heat up & roll down the windows, and enjoy the magic of Christmas as you drive through a wonderland of lights while listening to their very own FM radio station. This year, the show is located in Lebanon, TN at the Wilson Co. Fairgrounds.

CHEEKWOOD

While Cheekwood is a beautiful place to walk around any time of year, it’s exceptionally beautiful during the holiday season. Cheekwood decorates it’s grounds with over a million twinkling lights. In addition to the lights, there are real, live reindeer on site, s’mores pits, carolers, Santa, and cash bars with refreshments to enjoy while walking around. Don’t forget to check out the mansion – it’s decorated as well!

THE NUTCRACKER

Who doesn’t love a fancy night out to the ballet? Seeing The Nutcracker is the perfect date night for you and your special someone during the holidays. In typical Nashville spirit, this isn’t your average Nutcracker performance. The Nashville Ballet incorporates many Nashville references to make it a one-of-a-kind performance that you won’t want to miss.

A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS

Pile in the family car and drive around neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights. There are so many beautifully decorated neighborhoods scattered throughout Nashville – and some of the houses even have their own radio stations to coordinate with their light display!

Have a family game night! Cozy up around the fire and host a family game night where each family member picks a game and you play them all. This is a fun way to alleviate the stress of the holiday season and bring the family together.

Host a family gingerbread house decorating contest- see who can decorate the best gingerbread house, or which team can! At the end, you can all gather around with some hot chocolate and watch your favorite Christmas movie.
