Hard Hats & Power Tools: Our Day With Habitat for Humanity

Friends
While we are experts on housing and real estate, we are not exactly experts on building a house…well unless you count Michelle who is our resident handy woman!

But because we love everything about real estate, we were eager to volunteer our time to help build a house through the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors (GNAR). We had 6 of our team members participate in the Keller Williams Habitat volunteer day. We installed siding and insulation, and caulked plates and panel joints. Although Aaron had never used a saw before, we had Michelle there to keep him in line and make sure that the wood was the only thing to be cut that day. Thankfully, everyone returned safely home with all 10 fingers and all 10 toes still in tact.

Habitat was established in 1976 and has since had over 4 million people volunteer their time to rehab or construct over 800,000 homes. Their impact is truly inspiring, and volunteering our time last month encouraged us to roll out some similar charity projects of our own (stay tuned for information about those).

It was especially moving to meet the mom of the family who’s home we were building. Her name is Hayet. She and her husband immigrated to the US from Tunisia. They were high school sweethearts, but were both dedicated to getting university education, so they lost touch over the years. They eventually reconnected in the states, and married in 2011.

Hearing their story, and seeing pictures of their beautiful son, Mohammed, made the day of hard work incredibly rewarding. There is nothing that can replace the feeling of being able to help another person, and her gratitude was overflowing. Although she didn’t say it outright, it was obvious that she and her husband had been through a lot, and that they have put in a lot of hard work and long hours with little reward. You could tell that she was simply full of joy to see their American Dream come true.

Now it’s your turn. While we can’t personally build you a house, we are certainly qualified to help you buy your dream home or sell your current one! Ready to make your American Dream a reality? We are more than ready to help. Contact us at (615) 807-0579 to get started today.
