As the summer months quickly approach, you may be making your list of outdoor activities to do this summer with the family. Beyond the restaurants and music scene, Nashville has some of the most wonderful outdoor day adventures and activities. We’ve compiled a list of a few of our favorites!
Cheekwood Estate and Botanical Gardens
55 acres of botanical garden and art museum on the famous Cheekwood Estate is definitely on the top of our list. Cheekwood has family events and activities planned all year long, but the summer months are the most magical while the gardens are full and blooming. The estate has 12 unique gardens to explore as well as handfuls of inspiring exhibits. For the month of May, Cheekwood will present a selection of Amanda Parer’s “Intrude” inflatables: glowing, white rabbits that will take over the Cheekwood landscape. We believe it’s a must see! Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort
Located on Percy Priest Lake, Nashville Shores Resort houses some of Nashville’s best summer activities! It is home to Nashville Shores Waterpark—over 1 million gallons of water park fun! The grounds include a beautiful beach, a wave pool, lazy river and 8 thrilling water slides. It is also home to their Treetop Adventure Park, which features over 100 treetop obstacles like giant zip lines, cargo nets and Tarzan swings. If that’s not enough, you can rent a pontoon boat or jet skis for the day from their marina. Or stay overnight in their Lakeview Cabins and RVs.
Arrington Vineyards
Arrington Vineyards is a winery located outside of Nashville in Arrington, Tennessee. The winery is not far from Downtown Franklin and can be a great picnic spot or addition to a summer day trip. Beyond the scenic views and landscape, there are free wine tastings and live music. The vineyard hosts Music in the Vines every year from April through October on Saturdays and Sundays. With over 950 acres of greenway and 4 miles of paved trails along the Cumberland River, Shelby Bottoms is a great location for leisurely hikes and outdoor activity for the whole clan! On top of that, the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center offers free public nature and environment education courses for children and adults. They also offer a Nashville B-Cycle station where residents and visitors can rent a bike for the day to ride the greenway.
